Early Years

Every parent knows that a child’s experiences in their first few years are crucial, which is why the right choice of school is so important. We at Whitchurch believe that a child’s experience in the early years has a major impact on their future chances and as such are committed to every child receiving the best possible start at our school to fulfill their potential. 

Learning through play, in a fun and stimulating environment is vital to our young children. We ensure that each individual child is learning through high quality play that is tailored to them. We ensure that our children develop at their own pace whilst having fun and making friends. Our early years’ pupils become confident, secure children who, when the time comes, are better prepared for their future and ready to reach their potential. 

We place a strong emphasis on working extremely closely with parents, not only to reassure them about their child’s welfare and progress, but also to create a circle of support with the child at the centre. 

'Parents appreciate the warm welcome and the good induction procedures for pupils when they join the school in Reception. A typical comment from a new parent was ‘We have been made to feel very welcome and the children settled straight away’.

'Reception children have a good balance between adult-led and child-initiated activities so they make good progress. During the inspection, children were highly stimulated by the imitation mini beasts provided for an activity related to their mathematical development.'
